Motorcycles ICBC Rate Classes

Airtable Universe

What are they and why do they matter?

In British Columbia, there are 10 different rate classes for motorcycles. These classes are used to determine the insurance premium that you will pay. The rate class that you are assigned to will depend on a number of factors, including the type of motorcycle that you ride, the size of the engine, and your driving history.

The different rate classes are as follows:

111 - Motorcycles with an engine size of 200cc or less

400 - Motorcycles with an engine size of 400cc or less

750 - Motorcycles with an engine size of 750cc or less

1150 - Motorcycles with an engine size of 1150cc or less

Over 1150 - Motorcycles with an engine size of over 1150cc

In addition to the engine size, the rate class that you are assigned to will also depend on your driving history. If you have a good driving record, you will likely be assigned to a lower rate class. However, if you have a history of traffic violations, you will likely be assigned to a higher rate class.

Why do rate classes matter?

The rate class that you are assigned to will have a significant impact on the cost of your motorcycle insurance. Motorcycles in higher rate classes will have higher insurance premiums than motorcycles in lower rate classes. This is because motorcycles in higher rate classes are considered to be more of a risk to insure.

If you are looking to save money on your motorcycle insurance, it is important to understand the rate classes and how they can affect your premium. By choosing a motorcycle that is in a lower rate class, you can reduce the cost of your insurance.

How can I find out what rate class I am in?

You can find out what rate class you are in by contacting your insurance company. They will be able to provide you with your rate class and explain how it was determined.

What if I disagree with my rate class?

If you disagree with your rate class, you can contact your insurance company to dispute it. They will review your driving history and the type of motorcycle that you ride to determine if you should be assigned to a different rate class.
